July 16, 2022 - 48km from Pian Munè, Valle Varaita between Templar paths, up to Saluzzo school Rosa Bianca

 Yesterday I made this beautiful 48.5km walk between Pian Munè and Saluzzo passing through the Varaita Valley, with the goal of the IC Rosa Bianca school.

 Departure near Pian Munè a few minutes after eight in the morning, then Droe hamlet and Bertorello refuge. I cross the valley to head towards Pian Pilun, where I find a cyclist resting. At this point I head towards the Gilba valley, turning left at that crossroads which usually takes me to Becetto if taken to the right. The road is beautiful, perfectly suitable for motor vehicles too. Then I go down and cross various villages including Borgata Danna. Some are well restored and full of people. Others totally deserted and in decay. I have even seen one with a sundial perfectly calibrated to the exact time (Borgata Chiabrandi), equipped with a beautiful church in the center ...

Valley of Gilba

 I must write that continuing towards the path you can perceive a high level of religiosity in past centuries in those areas given the very high number of chapels, pillars and even imposing churches such as 'Madonna della Betulla', built in the middle of the woods. Building that has nothing to envy to others present in the large urban centers of the plain. I immediately see a Cross at its entrance with the typical sword shape linked to the Order of the Templars, and it is nice to see the EYE IN THE TRIANGLE THAT OBSERVES THE WORLD in the votive pylon of the same courtyard ... Some assumptions then confirmed later at home with a brief search on the internet, finding without too much surprise the confirmation of the passage from the Varaita Valley to France of this extinct Order ... I indicate here one: http://www.clypeus.it/cronache/varaita.htm, not Randomly, knights are depicted on each pylon! I eat a first snack in the portico of the umpteenth small chapel built on one of the many watersheds, 'San Bernardo delle Sottole' and then I leave.

 I head towards Brossasco, crossing the country. Here many memories of my past life emerge in me related to the help for the implementation of the Fitwalking of the Valle Varaita Trail (thanks to the organizer Riccardo) ... I go ahead and head towards Venasca / Isasca, it is difficult to say since at a certain point the paths thicken and become barely visible due to the leaves. Many mistakes start at the crossroads, which take away more time together with that of the observation of the previous religious buildings of which I have always been passionate, buth he clock is no longer my problem in this world increasingly obsessed with time!

I continue without water that was abundant before, but given the wooded desolation of the stretch beyond Isasca and Borgata Cuniglia I passed several kilometers at the turn of midday until about 2.00 pm without finding any fountains. Near Borgata Cuniglia I find a group of ancient ruined huts with a small square and a trickle of water that still 'throws' from a fountain, so I take the opportunity to wet my head and drink. The heat at one point was a sensation well over 30 degrees.

Above Piasco the private properties begin with various fences in the woods, which I run along until you reach easily passable mule tracks. The first houses emerge, even if they are still very thin.

The asphalt begins and within a few kilometers I am in Piasco. At that point I drink and feel a great heat reflected from the asphalt of the plain. I am at the 38th kilometer and the final straight stretch begins towards Saluzzo, crossing Verzuolo and Manta. I pass through alternative roads to the very busy state road, taking the cycle path. At each fountain I stop to calm the temperature since even though it is already 18.00 the heat here is much higher than that perceived in the woods during peak hours.

At 18.39 I arrive in front of the Garden of the Rosa Bianca Middle School (where I teach), then the last video and customary photos.

I can write that I have voluntarily taken it very comfortably as from a number of excursions to this part, so still with relatively fresh legs, it was nice to explore new places for so many little discoveries that I did not know before.

I close the route in 10 hours and 25 minutes for a distance of about 48km and over 3900m of difference in Valle Po, the Varaita Valley and the plain. A beautiful adventure always prepared with the weekly Monotraining Technique.

A passo ultratrail da Pian Muné, Valle Varaita, fino alla scuola Rosa Bianca di Saluzzo

Ieri ho realizzato questo bel giro a piedi di 48,5km tra Pian Munè e Saluzzo passando dalla Valle Varaita, con meta la scuola IC Rosa Bianca.

Partenza nei pressi di Pian Munè pochi minuti dopo le otto del mattino, quindi borgata Droe e rifugio Bertorello. Oltrepasso il vallone per dirigermi verso Pian Pilun, dove trovo un ciclista che riposa. A questo punto mi dirigo verso il vallone di Gilba, svoltando a sinistra in quel bivio che solitamente se preso a destra mi porta a Becetto. La strada è bella, perfettamente carreggiabile anche dai mezzi a motore. Quindi scendo e incrocio varie Borgate tra cui Borgata Danna. Alcune sono ben restaurate e ricche di persone. Altre totalmente deserte e in decadenza. Ne ho vista una con addirittura una meridiana perfettamente tarata sull'ora esatta(Borgata Chiabrandi), munita di una bella chiesetta al centro...

Devo scrivere che proseguendo verso il percorso si percepisce un alto livello di religiosità nei secoli passati in quelle zone visto l'elevatissimo numero di cappellette, piloni e perfino chiese imponenti come 'Madonna della Betulla', costruita in mezzo ai boschi. Edificio che non ha nulla da invidiare ad altri presenti nei grandi centri urbani della pianura. Scorgo subito una Croce al suo ingresso con la tipica forma a spada legata all'Ordine dei Templari, ed è bello vedere l'OCCHIO NEL TRIANGOLO CHE OSSERVA IL MONDO' nel pilone votivo dello stesso cortile... Alcune supposizioni poi confermate successivamente a casa con una breve ricerca su internet, trovando senza troppo stupore la conferma del passaggio dalla Valle Varaita verso la Francia di questo estinto Ordine... Ne indico qui uno: http://www.clypeus.it/cronache/varaita.htm, non a caso su ogni pilone sono raffigurati cavalieri! Mangio un primo spuntino nel porticato dell'ennesima piccola cappella realizzata su uno dei tanti spartiacque, 'San Bernardo delle Sottole' e poi riparto.

Mi dirigo verso Brossasco, attraversando il paese. Qui affiorano in me molti ricordi della mia vita passata legati all'aiuto per la messa in opera della Fitwalking della Valle Varaita Trail(grazie all'organizzatore Riccardo)... Vado avanti e mi dirigo verso Venasca/Isasca, è difficile dirlo dato che ad un certo punto i sentieri si infittiscono e diventano poco visibili per via delle foglie. Iniziano molti sbagli di strada ai bivi, che mi portano via altro tempo unito a quello dell'osservazione delle edificazioni religiose precedenti di cui sono da sempre appassionato. Poco importa alla fine l'orologio non è più un mio problema, in questo mondo sempre più ossessionato dal tempo!

Proseguo senz'acqua che prima era abbondante, vista però la desolazione boschiva del tratto oltre Isasca e Borgata Cuniglia ho oltrepassato diversi chilometri a cavallo di mezzogiorno fino alle 14.00 circa senza trovare fontane. Nei pressi di Borgata Cuniglia trovo un gruppo di antiche baite diroccate con una piccola piazzetta ed un filo d'acqua ancora che 'butta' da una fontana, quindi ne approfitto per bagnarmi bene la testa e bere. Il caldo ad un certo punto era a sensazione ben oltre i 30 gradi.

Sopra Piasco iniziano le proprietà private con svariate recinzioni nei boschi, che costeggio fino ad arrivare a mulattiere ben percorribili. Affiorano le prime case, anche se ancora molto diradate.

Inizia l'asfalto e nel giro di una manciata di chilometri sono a Piasco. A quel punto bevo e sento un gran calore riflesso dall'asfalto della pianura. Sono al 38esimo chilometro e inizia il tratto finale rettilineo verso Saluzzo, attraversando Verzuolo e Manta. Passo per strade alternative alla trafficatissima statale, imboccando la ciclabile. Ad ogni fontana mi fermo per calmare la temperatura dato che nonostante siano già le 18.00 il caldo qui è ben superiore a quello percepito fra i boschi nelle ore di punta.

Alle 18.39 arrivo davanti al Giardino della Scuola Media Rosa Bianca(dove insegno), quindi ultimo video e foto di rito.

Posso scrivere di essermela volontariamente presa molto comoda come da un certo numero di escursioni a questa parte, quindi ancora con le gambe relativamente fresche, è stato bello esplorare luoghi nuovi per tante piccole scoperte che prima non conoscevo.

Chiudo il percorso in 10 ore e 25 minuti per una distanza di 48km circa ed oltre 3900m di disflivello tra la Valle Po, Valle Varaita e pianura. Una bella avventura sempre preparata con la Tecnica del Monoallenamento settimanale.
